Estelle Disch, a professor of sociology at the University of Massachusetts, uses her research to look at gender reconstruction and has compiled � and updated three times � an anthology entitled, �Reconstructing Gender: A Multicultural Anthology.� Disch represents the voice in which the anthology is compiled in the general introduction. She states: If students of gender studies choose to be conscious of the complexity of human life, much of the literature on human nature and gender needs to be read carefully, and any generalizations made with extreme caution. Disch looks at �sociological imagination� and agrees with the practice of looking at and placing oneself in a social context and identifying how public issues affect one at a personal level. This kind of introspection can be performed in many arenas.
