Food borne Illness Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Food borne illnesses are caused by eating a food or beverage which has been contaminated. Over 250 different forms of these diseases have been discovered (CDC) . There is often no way to directly identify a food borne illness due to the symptoms of each being so complex. Most food borne illnesses are infections; which are caused by a variety of bacteria, viruses, and parasites that can be food borne. Most of the microbes or toxins that cause the food borne illnesses enter through the GI (Gastrointestinal) Tract. The first symptoms of food borne illness are nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea (CDC). Worse cases can be neurological symptoms, which are headaches, tingling, paralysis, headaches, and renal failure (Acheson). The most common microbe of illnesses is Escherichia coli O157:H7. These infections are spread through contaminated food, drinking water, swimming water, and human touch. Other common microbes are Campylobacter, Salmonella, and a group of viruses known as the “calicivirus” or the Norwalk-viruses. During the early stages of America, contaminated......
