Hinduism, also known as Sanatana Dharma, is a henotheistic religion which originated in what is now modern-day India. While there are many deities that are worshipped in Hinduism, they are all considered manifestations of the one supreme monistic Ishvara. Hinduism is the world�s third largest religion with 828 million practitioners. (Robinson, B. A., 2005) Hinduism has evolved over the last 3500 years and consists of thousands of traditions and practices and is generally considered the world�s oldest organized religion. Ideology and Practices The traditional name of Hinduism is �Sanatana Dharma� which means �Eternal Religion� or �Eternal Values.� The theories of Hinduism hold that certain spiritual principles are eternally true and transcend mortal life, representing the higher consciousness. This higher consciousness is not merely that of body or mind and intellect, but that of a transcendental state that exists within and beyond our existence.
