Adultery by James Dickey “We have all been in rooms we cannot die in, and they are odd places, and sad,” in this opening line of the poem Dickey draws the readers attention with a statement we can all agree with. I’m only eighteen years old and I can think of a handful or rooms I might have been punished for if my parents were to ever find out. If Dickey were to ever die while in the arms of his lover his wife would surly find out his secret. He then mentions Indians in his poem, I feel these Indians might be someone he looks up to because it seems to me these Indians are good honest men and they would never do this and he wonders why but he respects them for resisting what he could not. “Nothing can come of this, nothing can come of us,” This line shows obviously he wants no relationship with his mistress and no one else can know either. The woman seals her womb with a ring of convulsive rubber because they are clearly not trying to have children or attain any STD’s if they want this affair to remain a secret. “We have done it again we are still living.
