Jose Clemente Orozco had very graphic images that shocked some people, however his depiction of humanity impressed many more, making him one of the most famous artists in Mexico. He started out going to agriculture school, to become a farmer, but he was truely more interested in painting and drawing. As a fourteen year old typical teenage boy, one day he was playing with firecrackers in an experiment, but tragedy struck. Some gunpowder exploded and blew up three of his fingers, leaving his left hand amputated and his right hand severely injured, as well as his hearing and eyesight permanently affected. As a determined artist, Jose Orozco never let this stand in his way. Orozco was born in Jalisco, Mexico Nov. 23, 1883 in the small ciudad Guzman, also referred to today as Zapotlan el Grande. His dad, Irineo Orozco, made soap, ink and dyes while his mother, Rosa Flores was very interested in art and music. When he was three they moved to Guadalahara, then Mexico City when he was six.
