Inexperience Koren Zailckas, as a young girl and on into her adult stages in life, has episodes with drinking that most everyone can identify with, one way or another. In her memoir Smashed, she tells, in shocking detail, of her life and the relationship she has with alcohol. Her first black out came when Koren was fifteen, just as my little sister�s was. I can relate to her hospital visit because I had to watch my own little sister be rushed to the emergency room due to, what I�d like to call, over intoxication. Koren story so closely related to that of my little sister, that I can tell my story just as Koren told her. On the eve of my departure from home out into the new and exciting world of college, I found myself in a cold and impersonal hospital room, watching an I.V. bag drip fluids into my little sister�s arm. She laid in the hospital bed and it �[looked] like [it�d] been made with [her] in it; its patched pastel pattern [was] pulled smooth and tight, clear up to [her] neck� (86).
