As a lawmaker for our new colony of 40,000 people, it will be my job to create a society in which we can all live peacefully and without fear of harm. Now we will have to look back on past events and laws to decide what will work and what will not. I believe that we must agree with Perlmutter when dealing with criminals. Perlmutter stated that we should honor the offender as a rational being, since in choosing to do wrong the offender has brought the punishment upon himself. How should we create our law? Will we allow life in prison? Will we implement the death penalty? It is there questions we must answer in order to establish the law in our new society. In our justice system, the pattern will be: crime committed, then fair trial, justice for the victim(s) and then punishment. In regards to the law, I believe we should implement a hierarchy of law. There will be several tiers of this hierarchy beginning with the least heinous crime and working the way up to the horrible and intolerable crimes.
