Paint the portrait of A Bird Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Both poems “Paint the Portrait of a Bird” and “To Paint the Portrait of a Bird” are translated by Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Paul Dehn, from the original French poem created by Jacques Prevert. Although both poems, at first glace seemed to resemble a set of instruction to paint a bird, it is actually a very imaginative and cleaver way to talk about arts and artists.
Although both translators have slightly different interpretations, both of the poems still communicates the same themes and images. In both poems the “bird” is used as a metaphor for life in general, and the “cage”, as symbol for device to capture realty. Both translation of Jacques Prevert original poem starts of stating that “First paint a cage / with an open door” (Ferlinghetti, Dehn, Line 1-2).
