Robert Louis Stevenson was born in Edinburgh on November 13, 1850. The novella, �The strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde,� was written over a hundred years ago in 1886. Robert Louis Stevenson was brought up in the elegant Newtown of Edinburgh; however, the Oldtown of his country was a rather uncomfortable environment, which consisted of �slums.� This may have been enough to give the author a perception for creating the settings and themes of the novella. In addition to this, as a child Robert was suffering from poor health and had experienced a number of nightmares. He later stated that many of his thoughts for his stories came to him in his dreams. �The strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde,� was a well-remembered book due to the fact it raised a number of interesting ideas, which have become the subject of many horrors and mysteries.
