Development of 19th Century Railroads During 19th Century America railways grew rapidly and affected all aspects of business. Railroad development across the country industrialized unlikely areas of the United States. Railroads had such a great affect on Americans that the United States government was prompted to regulate the railways. The revolutions of railways in the United States during the 19th Century can be attributed to various engineers and entrepreneurs. United States railways grew by leaps and bounds throughout the 19th Century. According to the Library of Economics and Liberty, there were three miles of railway in 1823. This figure shot up to 115,000 by the beginning of 1883. Those figures were largely attributed to land grants. Land was set aside solely for building railways. Towns and rural areas that may never have seen industrialization were now sprouting up all over the country. The growing railroad industry created jobs for conductors, engineers, laborers and various other occupations. Businesses in other industries were greatly affected by this phenom......
