“Sonnet 29” and “To His Coy Mistress” “5. Consider the lovers in Shakespeare's Sonnet 29 and Marvell's To His Coy Mistress. How are they similar? How are they different? What is the most important thing that can be said about the differences between them?” In Marvell’s “To His Coy Mistress” and Shakespeare’s “Sonnet 29”, both authors demonstrate two different types of people with the same strong passion towards love. Both characters have similarities in obsession, but they have different lifestyle and approach on reaching their goal. In the first verse of Marvell’s “To His Coy Mistress,” he is expressing his love towards a lady. He tells her about his feelings he has for her, and how much he would love her if they had all the time in the world. He also tells her he would spend countless amount of years appreciating each part of her without a single complaint. However, in the next part of the poem, he is trying to seduce her by saying that the time isn’t on their side and youthfulness won’t last forever.
