It takes a great amount of effort to avoid becoming a gangster, let alone do anything more with life. Most who find themselves in the situation described above never even enter this fight, and out of those that do, rarely do they succeed. The movie, "City of God," portrays this situation masterfully. By taking an analytical look at the movie�s narrator, Rocket, this essay will argue how a camera and a journalistic aspiration act as his key out of the typical inferior lifestyle. In a Rio de Janiero slum called Cidade de Deus, the viewer is introduced to character after character that have the smarts and the bravery to get out but somehow always ends up being pulled right back into the violence of the city.
