Since Ben Bernanke has been assigned as President George Bush�s chief economic advisor to replace Alan Greenspan many people agreed that speculative opportunities for profit will exist during his term but Bernanke has the credentials to be a good Fed chairman, and the market spoke favorably of him on the day of his appointment. If you've been following the U.S. economy, you've seen some potentially troubling trends coming into the new year. Real gross domestic product grew at an anemic 1.1% year-on-year pace in the final quarter of 2005. Median existing-home sales prices actually fell between August and December, with a visible slowdown in mortgage-application growth in the same period. And the U.S. yield curve has now begun to invert, which is normally a sign of looming recession. The good news is that we're still far away from ringing full U.S. alarm bells.
