The Song of China and The Family (films) Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Eric Pinckney Song of China and The Family HIST 364, Fall 2006 October 2, 2006 The Song of China and The Family are two films that each represent different eras of Chinese culture and show the views, ideologies and traditions of modern China. These movies are similar in that they showcase the traditional beliefs of China, but in each movie are portrayed in a different way. This essay will take these two films and discuss their similarities and differences. The first film, The Song of China represents the year of 1890 in China. During this time there was an urge to return to traditionalism. Western beliefs were viewed as corrupt by the elder generation and Confucianism was touted as a way to avoid the path to evil. In families, the males were dominant and the females subservient. The elders were those with the wisdom, and made decisions for the family. The second film, The Family takes place in the early 1900’s, between 1916-1920. This film also reflects the differing ideology of the generations. The older generation held onto ......
