Fallen Angels �My father used to call all soldiers angel warriors, because usually they get boys to fight wars. Most of you aren�t old enough to vote.� This was said by, Lieutenant Carroll. This quote was used to articulate the main theme of the novel: the loss of innocence in the boys. In the Coming-of-age novel, �Fallen Angels�, Author Walter Dean Myers conveys the loss of innocence though the views, actions and adjustments, and the acceptance of the boys during the Vietnam War. When RIchie first enlists in the war, he has deceptions on what war is really like. Richie�s only knowledge of war has only come from movies and stories of how war is filled with bravery and honor. In Chapter 11, Richie sates, �We spent another day lying around. It seemed to be what war was about. Hours of boredom, and seconds of terror.� This shows the false ideas of Richie about the war he has seen. This also shows that they spend their relaxing time in horror of death.
