All members of the European Union are affected by the flow of international migration and the plan to develop a common immigration policy at the EU level is on the Commissions to do list. The European Commission has come up with a two track proposal towards this common policy. On one hand the establishment of a common legal framework concerning the conditions of admission and stay of third-country nationals and on the other hand an open coordination procedure to encourage the gradual convergence of policies not covered by the European legislation. The objective is to manage migration flows better by a coordinated approach which takes into account the economic and demographic situation of the EU. The Current state of affairs revolves around the development of policies, the management of the policies, and the establishment of a structure to facilitate the policies.
