A woman is perceived in a variety of ways. Society can have a potentially deprecating idea of the �female role� in perspective, which can cause her own opinion of herself to be off on many different levels. Societal views of women can dominant they way in which they see themselves. If women are viewed as purely sexual objects, then they will see themselves as merely sexual objects. Two different ideas of societal views and the impact they have on today�s women are presented in The Female Body by Margaret Atwood and Yellow Woman and the Beauty of the Spirit by Leslie Marmon Silko. These ideas of an identity complex are addressed to serve the purpose of revealing that societal views of women can place an extreme damper on progress in life as well as their development of their own sense of self.
