In 1893, a star was born by the name of Mae West. She was the child of a prizewinning boxer and a corset model , so that may have been where she received her desire to be a performer and the tendency to have a bad attitude. She created numerous movies and plays, most of which were sexually based. Her productions contained many sexual references and were considered to be extremely vulgar by many people, though for some, it was just what the doctor ordered. Mae West’s childhood influences also really shaped her career as a producer in her adult life. Also, after her first successful play, Sex, West was jailed for a week, so that created a good deal of publicity for her . It was the play Diamond Lil, however, that brought her notoriety in the thirties. Later, this was deemed her best play ever written and produced, though critics hated it. Mae West gained notoriety in the thirties through her funny, yet sexual movies and her reputation to be a bad girl. Mae West even had a sexual beginning in entertainment.
