What Is a Hippie? What is a hippie? By definition one that doesn�t conform to society�s standards and advocates a liberal attitude and lifestyle but is this the real point? Most definitions miss the point by focusing on the visible behavioral traits. These limited descriptions fail to reveal what lies in a hippie�s heart. To truly understand the way of the hippie we must look at those circumstances that led up to the birth of the hippie movement. Our objective is to explain various things from life experiences that helped point them toward the hippie life style, the political and social view points of the time period, the unjust laws they fought against, and their dreams for the future. Hippies were part of the first generation to face the real threat of nuclear annihilation as children. During this time period the television was also becoming more violent, a typical newscast would start with the latest violent clashes in the streets of some ghetto, followed by scenes of marches and speeches from some anti-war rally.
