INTERNATIONAL TRADE THE UNITED STATES CUSTOMS SERVICE One primary institution in the world of international trade is the United States Customs Service. The U.S. Customs Service is a government agency, which enforces more than 600 laws for over 60 different government agencies. Their role and main purpose is to protect the revenue generated by international trade as well as protect the citizens from any harmful things that may be smuggled in by importers; goods which may very well affect the health of US citizens. As the �primary enforcement� agency for protecting out nations borders, their job is intense. The U.S. Customs Service is aided by extensive land, air, and marine resources.
