Hedda Gabler written in 1890 presents a picture of society which sketches class differences between the aristocratic and bourgeois worlds in detail. The social conditions and standards basically involve wealth and worthiness. Relating the standards to Hedda Gabler, Ibsen portrays the protagonist, Hedda, as an aristocrat that looks down upon with whomever she interacts. Hedda plays with her acquaintances’ emotions and influences decisions about their destinies in life. This topic deserves to be considered because initially readers believe that Hedda is a powerful and dominant character from the beginning of her lifetime and becomes weaker towards the end of her lifetime. Ibsen exposes other stresses of modern life by showing the inner pressures and conflicts that inhibit and even destroy the individual. With the social conditions and standards of 1890, Hedda’s aristocratic nature proves that from the beginning to the end, Hedda is weak with her relationships to other acquaintances in the drama Hedda Gabler.
