Thoreau and Emerson's Thoughts Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In the essay, “Where I Lived and What I Lived For,” written by Henry David Thoreau, there are many quotes that can be used to relate to specific lifestyles of many people. One quote that caught my attention was, “I say, let your affairs be as two or three, and not a hundred or a thousand; instead of a million count half a dozen, and keep your accounts on your thumbnail.” This quote relates to my life in many ways. The meaning of the quote is that people should not overwhelm themselves with a great number of tasks. Instead, people should focus on a few things in life which would allow more time to achieve the tasks, and excel in those goals. This quote has directly related to me. For example, currently as a junior in high school, I am busy with a great amount of work. This is the critical year in high school and I am trying to focus on too many things. I am becoming stressed from trying to maintain so many responsibilities and the number of tasks is what is slowing down my performance in each activity.
