The Defiance of a Greater Power In the story of Antigone, the main character Antigone is fighting for what she believes in. In doing so, defying Creon’s law, she sets out to bury her brother of who has not had a proper burial and has been left as food for the animals. In the story “Waiting for the Barbarians,” the magistrate also goes through dilemma’s in trying to do what he believes is right and for the good of other people. Each character is attempting to make things right given the situations they have been put in. Through each story, we are able to observe the characteristics of both of these morally right characters. Both characters as individuals share similarities and differences through their personalities. However, it seems that Antigone’s moral character is much stronger than that of the magistrate. Although Antigone has a stronger character than the magistrate in the fight for what is right, both can be seen as admirable moral character through both their differences and similarities shared by their determination for good and defiance of a greater power.
