The investment world has been glamorized and demonized by popular films like Wall Street and Boiler Room. These movies portray only stereotypes and half-truths of investing, the lubrication that keeps our country�s economic engine moving. The two objectives of this paper are: First to show the basics and history of investments in the United States, with specific reference to Ben Graham's methodology of portfolio management, and second, to detail a practical approach to dealing with investments. While Graham taught at Columbia after going broke in 1929, he did not write Security Analysis as an academic treatise. Rather, he wanted the common man to understand the complex world of Wall Street. When a person hears �investment� we immediately think of Wall Street. Wall Street, located in New York City, is the birthplace of the New York Stock exchange (NYSE), Amex and, more recently, the Nasdaq.
