Critique on Wit Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Wit is an intriguing, yet emotional play which must be performed in a concise manner in order to suspend the audience’s sense of disbelief. The playwright, for this play, wanted the audience to observe the bravery of a cancer patient through her battle with the ravaging disease, yet managed to convey it in a cynical manner. The mix of the afore mentioned elements made this play, along with the actors, an entertaining, yet educational piece of artwork. The language in this play is very complex and structured because the main character is a professor of poetry. The words and syntax of the work must play to this character in order to suspend the audience’s disbelief. Although the language is necessary to the character, it may be hard for one to understand just what the character is trying to get across. The other characters involved, however, play up to the use of large words used by the main character and portray irony by using much smaller, less complex words.
