AMERICANISM Malerie Wyman Per. 1 8-27-06 Our ancestors were imigrants from other countries from around the world who were seeking many different things such as freedom, religious tolerance, riches, or a better life; but no matter how many different reasons they had they all still wanted to become Americans. J. Hector St. John De Crevecoeur, once a French immigrant, wrote that as a European arrives he knows limitations, but as he �breaths our air� he dreams of possibilities. Americans feed on possibilities, because the United States are full of them. To be called an American is like being called the fortunate, because we are surpassing what was thought of as impossible each and everyday. From the time our ancestors touched American soil, through the Civil War, all the way up to today, Americans have shared the same common needs; the need to be an individual, to search high and low for new possiblilites, and the necessity for progress.
