In the 1820�s and 1830�s America was dominated by Jacksonian Democracy. Although the Jacksonian Democrats viewed themselves as guardians of the Constitution, democracy and individual liberty, they actually disregarded the essential characteristics of American society. The disregard of essential characteristics occurred because the Jacksonian Democrats empowered the executive branch, ignored the rights of the people, and prevented economic success of the Americans . The empowering of the executive branch disrupted the checks and balances. Ignoring the rights of people led to the painful transfer of a whole region. Jackson�s drastic steps to fight the bank left Americans in a financial panic. These factors all lead to Jacksonian Democrats not providing Americans with basic American principles. The empowering of the executive branch prevented the government from being a true democracy. Andrew Jackson during his presidency greatly empowered the executive branch.
