Antigone Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In “Antigone”, the Greek tragedy by Sophocles, King Creon speaks to his son Haimon, “That is the way to behave: subordinate everything else, my son, to your father’s will” (792). In this quote, you can recognize that King Creon is a strong king. He firmly believes that he is ruler of everyone within his empire and the people of it should listen to his word and obey whether or not they believe in what he has decided; or if it coincides with their morals. As his son, Haimon has the word of King Creon even more harsh. Since Creon is Haimon’s father he believes that Haimon should obey his father’s wishes whether he likes it or not. King Creon is fully correct in making this statement. To begin, King Creon has made enemies with Antigone, Haimon’s future wife. Unfortunately, Creon is not on good terms with Antigone, because she buried her Polyneices, a traitor to Creon and to his empire, despite Creon’s direct decree. To Creon, this was an enormous crime to commit, in which the sentence is death. The King wants to be fair and kill Antigone even though she was to be his future daughter......
