War through Time There have been many war movies made over the years, with some glorifying war and others showing the more gruesome side of war. Those that glorify war often only show the brave brotherhood of men who fight honorably for their country. More modern war movies tend to show the more realistic side of war with men dying horribly in mounds of blood and guts. War, however, does not necessarily mean two countries fighting one another for some politic purpose or meaning. Wars can exist among different races, different classes, and some wars, like the one the United States is fighting today, are fought against a specific identity such as terrorism. When thinking about war films, it is important to analyze the different elements of the films such as theme, colors and lighting, and props. The movies, Gladiator, The Patriot, Black Hawk Down, and The Matrix are all about war in one way or another, and they also show how the elements of war change throughout time.
