Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte is a very good example of a Post-impressionist painting done by Georges Seurat during1884-1886. Although each Post-impressionist artists had different intentions for their paintings, they could be generally separated in to two major groups. First were the post-impressionist painters who were interested in forms and structures. The other painters were more into expressing feelings by using colors, symbols, and patterns. Seurat was the latter example. He was a major Post-Impressionist who was deeply interested in expressing his feelings using his own unique colors and brushstrokes. However, elements in the painting, such as thoughtful composition, and interesting subject matter of Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, proves that Georges Seurat has pushed his art far beyond Post-impressionism.
