What is Evil? Can someone who is regarded a hero and idolized in a country become evil? In William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, is the character Macbeth evil? The simple answer is no. Macbeth however was a victim of circumstance. This is evident because the predictions made by the Weird Sisters were what Macbeth’s insecurities needed to hear. Lady Macbeth in turn was able to use his insecurities to influence him to do what she wanted that he would have otherwise not have done. Similarly Banquo was aware of the predictions and when these started to be realized, he became suspicious of Macbeth making Macbeth even more insecure. In the beginning of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, the character Macbeth was a hero of Scotland however due to his insecurities and circumstances he could not control, he ends up as a victim of circumstance, portrayed as evil.
