Creon the Tragic Hero of Antigone Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

A role model is someone who sets paths for citizens to follow, and someone whom people look up to. Creon, king of Thebes, in Antigone, a tragedy by Sophocles is a tragic hero who has to make a difficult decision to place a good example for his fellow citizens. He is a king of honor with a goal for stability and order in Thebes. Conversely, he makes a dreadful verdict when he sentences Antigone to death as a result of his pride. With the cruel peripetia that consumes the lives of Eurydice and Haemon, Creon lives a life of a dull and a loveless man. The King then came to a realization of his faults only after the death of his loved ones. All fine leaders desire to do their best throughout their reign. Creon’s goal is to protect the welfare of his people. He encourages honesty, loyalty and bravery among the Teban citizens. He promises to punish to those who do not abide by the rules and disturb the peace that is newly restored in Thebes.
