Historical and cultural conditions that gave rise to Humanistic perspective: The humanistic perspective reflects the philosophical view that individuals are born with an innate or natural instinct to be friendly, co-operative and constructive. People thus respond to warmth, kindness and honesty which activate the positive potential within. Humanistic psychology is deliberately constructed so as to be able to understand human nature using simple principles and a minimum of theory. Humanistic psychology emerged in the 1930�s and 1940�s. It aimed to be a �third force� in psychology, the field at that time being dominated by learning theory and Freudian psychoanalysis. Humanistic psychologists reject both psychiatric diagnosis and complex theories like those favored by psychodynamic and cognitive therapists, relying instead on a number of basic assumptions about human nature. In historical terms, some of the main European and American philosophers and thinkers whose ideas were influential include Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778), James (1842-1910) and Perls (1893-1970).......
