Kuwait, a Fortress Built Near Water: Kuwait has one of the oldest civilizations that went from beautiful grasslands to barren deserts. Kuwaiti�s have a unique style and way of life, but has also been able to overcome the many obstacles thrown at them. To illustrate, their ancestors date back thousands of years before other civilizations were formed. The discovery of oil aided the economy in many ways but also led to one of the reasons for the start of the Gulf War. To begin with, the country of Kuwait has history stretching back thousands of years to the Middle Stone Age. Geologists believe that a million years ago Arabia (a land that now consists of Kuwait) was completely covered by ice. Around 10,000 years ago the ice began to melt leaving well watered green marshes, and grasslands. As the years past, the climate began to change turning the beautiful grasslands into the dry, barren deserts that we see today (Miller 20).
