I�m Louis Armstrong, and I' m the best jazz singer ever. Well, maybe not ever, but I sure can play it. I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. Who knew that one day my former home would be completely destroyed? Anyway, my childhood by most people was called wretched. My father walked out on my family when I was very young, and our relationship was obviously unstable. At the age of seven, a family of Jewish immigrants introduced me to the trumpet. I blew into the tiny tin horn to attract customers to our junky business. I started talking with other �jazzers� and I became fascinated with the musical life. At the end of third grade, I dropped out of school and left the Jewish family who had been so loving to me. I led a quartet of boys on the street to help support my family. Being raised in a poor family, sometimes my siblings and I ran out of activities. One New Years Eve, I shot a gun in the air, causing the police to send me to reform school at age twelve.
