Children who grow up around drugs see it as a normal way of life. Adolescents who live in poverty sometimes feel that the only way to succeed in life is by selling drugs. "It was always about Bodega and nobody else but Bodega," Julio, also known as Chino, the narrator, says at the beginning of the novel, "Bodega Dreams," by Ernesto Qui�onez. He's talking about Willie Bodega, who started off as Young Lord, and then became a drug kingpin, an "unforgettable blend of nobility and street, as if God never made up his mind whether to have Bodega be born a leader or a hood�" as said by Chino in the middle of the novel. Bodega was the generous man in town. Anything you needed, all you had to do is call for Bodega and he would bless you.
