WHAT IS POSTMODERNISM? WHY MIGHT ACTOR-NETWORK THEORY BE CONSIDERED A POSTMODERNIST APPROACH TO ORGANIZATIONAL ANALYSIS? INTRODUCTION In the field of organizational studies, postmodernism is still relatively new and has been receiving considerable attention particularly in the social sciences and organization theory literature. Postmodernism, depending on the view one decides to take, can be seen as either a continuation of modernism entailing a so-called �periodization view� (a radical evolution of modernity), or on the other hand - and probably a more difficult perspective to grasp - as a break from modernism taking an epistemological position, a move from absolute truths to extreme relativism of concepts. Because even today the term along with its controversial perspectives is still being debated upon, this essay offers a straightforward explanation of postmodernism�s basic themes, including a helpful framework, and uses these as well as their respective major contributors, Baudrillard, Lyotard, Foucault, and Derrida to examine the extent to which Actor-Network Theory (ANT)......
