Dracula This essay responds to the following statement: “Bram Stokers “Dracula” is a complex text which demonstrates the convention of the gothic mode while challenging its readers with a range of theoretical perspectives” It will discuss the statements with reference to personal and critical response to examining the Feminist, Marxist, Psychoanalytical and mythopoetic approach. The Psychoanalytical approach sees literary texts as the unconscious thoughts and desires shared by members of a culture. From a psychoanalytical perspective Stoker may feel attracted to something that first appears interesting and compelling, although once he looks deeper, things may not be as attractive as they first appeared. The three women appear to Jonathon Harker, first as beautiful and sweet, and then as frightening unnatural creatures, their desires inhumane. Dracula feeds on blood of citizens, so his own existence can expand throughout Europe and the nations.
