The Cold War fears Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In the aftermath of the second world war, American people had many fears of the Cold War. The most common fears were, bomb shelters, civil air patrols, the red scares, the red ideas, communism in the government, and the Soviets, the Soviets being the most important. President Eisenhower and his administration did everything in their power to help address the fears American people had. The Cold War period last from the mid-1940s to the end of the 1980s. The war was a post-World War II struggle between the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) and its allies. During the Cold War international politics were heavily shaped by the intense rivalry between these two great blocs of power and the political ideologies they represented: democracy and capitalism in the case of the United States and its allies, and Communism in the case of the Soviet bloc. The Soviets during the Cold War were feared most because they had nuclear bombs, that could kill millions, and they were the first country to put up an orbiting satellite, Sputnik.
