In The Odyssey, Odysseus displays many distinguishing qualities as he deals with strange beings of all kinds and with various cultures.His actions distinguished his characteristics as he attends to the dangerous situations. He expresses himself as being brave, intelligent, and self-determined throughout the play.These are several characteristics that reflect a hero.Odysseus's qualities were key roles in his survival, and that of his companions. He uses intelligence to kill Polyphemus, self-determined to not to be with Calypso, and suave when he is disguised made his journey somewhat an easy ride home back to Ithaca. Odysseus and his men sail to the land of the Cyclopes. They enter a cave where they see a flock of sheep, milk, and cheese. Polyphemus returns to the cave to see strange men eating his food. Polyphemus shows hospitality by being generous as a host, and by respecting guests. However, he soon turns hostile and eats two of Odysseus�s men.He imprisoned the crew for future meals.
