The Roaring 20s is the age where people just wanted to drink, party, and have a good time. These superficially actions bring a lot of bitterness toward many people and one of them is a talented writer F. Scott Fitzgerald. In his novel, The Great Gatsby, the ghost motif occurred over and over again as Fitzgerald tries to emphasize his resentment toward these 1920 superficial people. In the novel, not only are the main characters giving ghost -like qualities but almost every characters are being describe as having ghostlike features, qualities, or behaviors. This achievement further stresses the author�s view of the twenties as being overwhelmingly superficial. Like ghosts, their existence is meaningless and insignificant to society; they live to pursue the nothingness and insubstantial; they treat one another like ghosts; they are isolated and alienated; and even their surrounding seems ghostly and insubstantial.
