Ford Pinto, Exxon Valdez, Enron, WorldCom, Pan Pharmaceuticals, and Nike are just a few of the companies to make headlines due to their lack of social responsibility and the misuse of consumer trust. If such high stake risks are present then why do companies take such a generic approach to ethics and corporate social responsibility? All the aforementioned companies have a code of conduct or code of ethics by which they are supposed to govern themselves. Companies spend enormous amounts of time and resources developing business plans and strategies and yet the ethics of that business and its role in the society to which it is a part of seem to get little more than a cursory glance.
