Osmosis Aim: I am going to investigate the rate of osmosis in a potato and show the effect of using different concentrations of sugar solutions. Introduction: During my experiment I am investigating the rate of osmosis which is the movement of water molecules, through a semi permeable membrane. This is caused due to variable concentrations, as the water molecules move from a low concentration to a high concentration. The semi permeable membrane in which the water passes through acts as a barrier against large solute molecules and only lets the passage of small water molecules. During osmosis water/osmotic potential occurs, this is the measure or pressure in which water molecules can diffuse out a solution. The effects on the plant cell would probably be mostly turgor pressure. I think this because during osmosis, when water moves into the plant cells, the pressure increases inside the cell.
