Randolph B. Campbell�s book An Empire for Slavery The Peculiar Institution shows how slavery affected antebellum Texas and it�s future. It shows that without slavery in antebellum Texas, it is likely that Texas would not have flourished the way that it did. It also tells of how the slaves were treated, what sort of work they did and also about their family, religion and music. Campbell also writes about the different laws of slavery that were brought into affect and how each law was perceived by the slaveholders. Randolph B. Campbell received his Doctor of Philosophy in history, his Master of Arts in history and his Bachelor of Science in Education at the University of Virginia. Campbell is a Professor of History at the University of North Texas. Campbell teaches History: The Early National Period, 1789-1848; Representative American Leaders to 1865; and Representative American Leaders since 1865.
