Abstract Many mental health organizations have ethics codes which create guiding principles for professionals. Within in counseling profession alone there are several organizations with ethics codes. The two ethics codes that will be examined in this paper come from the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC).. The 2005 ACA Code of Ethics and the 2004 AACC Code of Ethics have a similar set of codes yet differ in approach and function. This paper will analyze the similarities and differences of the codes in the areas of informed consent, competence of the counselor, and the counselor's relationship to society. `The purpose of the 2005 American Counseling Association Code of Ethics and the 2004 AACC Code of Ethics is to aid their members in establishing an ethical counseling practice. Because they were both written specifically for the counseling profession they have many of the same ideas in regards to ethical practices, procedures, and behaviors.
