The Iraq War (March 20, 2003 to present), sometimes known as the Second Gulf War, is an ongoing war that began with the United States-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. Many especially media continue to compare this ongoing war to that of the Vietnam War, much to the dismay of many in the U.S. However many of the similarities are written off as dogmatic, foolish links. However there are a select few issues which make similarities most apparent between these two wars. In this essay I will point out the main similarities and differences of the conditions of failure of the U.S involvement in the Vietnam War and see if it is present in Iraq today and finally conclude answering the essay question. Firstly, starting off with, the similarities. The first similarity is that the U.S saw the conflict in Vietnam as apart of their wider struggle against communism and therefore interpreted all the events in Vietnam in this same context. The result of the U.S viewing the war in Vietnam in the context of the Cold War was a distortion because the war in Vietnam may have been a genuine nation struggle ......
