If this is true, then why should it not be legal to marry more than one person? Polygamy is a form of marriage in which a person has more than one mate. This includes polyandry, a marriage with more than one husband, and polygyny, the term for a marriage with more than one wife. This has been widely practiced in societies throughout the world since the beginning of man, and is still common in Muslim countries and parts of Africa. If love exists between more than two people, a limitation should not be set on marriages. In history, polygamy was a common practice by wealthy powerful men. This idea transferred to the United States mainly through the Mormon religion. In August of 1852, Brigham Young, a religious leader, publicly endorsed the doctrine of polygamy.
