A Rising Epidemic in Child Obesity Child obesity is and has been for quite some time now a serious problem throughout the industrialized world. It is a physical and social struggle, predominately in the United States, which has grasped many people by the throat, granting them little hope for a turn-around. Unfortunately, the problem of child obesity is rapidly turning into a disturbing epidemic along side of a media uproar. Obesity is an imbalance of calories ingested and energy exerted, but it also involves multiple factors that are often not accounted for (Feeg 362). Who is to blame for this alarming increase of obese children? Media blames the parents, while the parents turn all heads toward the media. The term �obese� is most often used to refer to someone who is extremely overweight and even more specifically, someone with excessive body fat. �Overweight� and �obese� are not synonymous of each other, for example, one with a lot of muscle can easily be overweight without being obese.
