Everyone has heard the saying that absolute power corrupts absolutely. It�s a little clich�, but everyone understands what it means. There are many different types of power and many different ways those can be used and abused. We have all seen the devastating effects of irresponsibility coinciding with authority, whether it is the slave owners in the Old South, Enron, or Saddam Hussein, these are prime examples of the corruption that comes with power. The founding fathers were afraid that if proper measures weren�t taken, absolute power could corrupt our new nation. Absolute power can come in many forms and can exist on all levels of society and government. Kings and monarchs held absolute power for thousands of years. Violent dictators scare people into doing what they say with threats and acts of violence. In the 19th century south, power hungry white plantation owners abused, raped, and killed many slaves.
