Religious Crisis’s of the Late 1730’s through the 1760’s and the Great Awakening. The middle eighteenth century was a time of great crisis for the British colonies of North America. During these turbulent years there was no greater crisis than that which affected the religious communities of New England and Virginia. Today I would like to examine this religious crisis and explain how it paved the way for the Great Awakening. Furthermore, I hope to bring to the light some of the specific consequences that were a result of this period of “enlightenment” in our nation’s history. The religious crisis of the late 1730’s through the 1760’s was brought upon by multiple social and environmental factors. During the time of the third French and Indian War (King George’s War), the British colonies were going through a period of economic and political uncertainty. These uncertainties led the people of colonial America to be more perceptive to the new ideas that were being presented to them.
